Crafted in partnership with the Rev. Mike Stivers. A two-tier table…nightstand table, coffee table, next-to-toilet table. Made entirely from salvaged materials - the multicolor top pieces are old boards, distressed, rugged edges left as a part of their story. The legs were part of a door frame and the hinges remain on the upper legs. Finished with linseed oil.
Bookshelf. 6’ tall, 20” wide. The funky right sideboard I picked up from a house renovation/demolition on Dauphine St, the red/white painted side board I bought from the Green Project and then distressed the old paint, and all the other smaller component pieces I picked out of a dumpster from the big construction project at the Bywater Arts Lofts II. The whole shelf is finished with linseed oil.
This bookshelf played an almost-leading role in the critically acclaimed one-act play “Brother” that ran July-August at NOLA’s Elm Theatre. I built the shelf from local “waste” wood collected around the Bywater. Though the play was awesome, it remains to be seen how much this fame will impact the shelf’s market price and collectability. A nice graduate student named Mina now owns this piece of New Orleans cultural heritage.
